John Dory - Description

The John Dory is a marine fish with a flat body featuring a large false eye on its body. The John Dory uses its false eye to warn predators and confuse prey.

There is some speculation over the origins of the name 'John Dory'. Some believe its name is derived from the French word 'Jaune' meaning yellow while legend describes the dark spot or false eye as St Peter's thumbprint. The John Dory is a popular food source and is eaten all over the world.
