The mouth of the Star fish is underneath its body. It also has two stomachs! Food initially passes through a short oesophagus into the first stomach which is known as the cardiac stomach.

The food then moves through to its second stomach known as the pyloric stomach. Each of the Starfishes arms has two hollow tubes containing a pyloric caeca (pouch). These branch out from the pyloric stomach. Each one of the pyloric caecum (pouches) is lined by digestive glands which absorb nutrients from the food by secreting digestive enzymes.

The pyloric stomach also has a short intestine which runs from it to the anus which is located in the center of its upper body.
